STORMS FROM A BROKEN WORLD

THE STORMS WE CREATE

Jonah 1:12 “Pick me up and throw me into the sea,” he replied, “and it will become calm. I know that it is my fault that this great storm has come upon you.” New International Version

STORMS OF OPPOSITION

2 Corinthians 11:23-27 I’ve worked much harder, been jailed more often, beaten up more times than I can count, and at death’s door time after time. I’ve been flogged five times with the Jews’ thirty-nine lashes, beaten by Roman rods three times, pummeled with rocks once. The Message

2 Corinthians 11:23-27 I’ve been shipwrecked three times, and immersed in the open sea for a night and a day. In hard traveling year in and year out, I’ve had to ford rivers, fend off robbers, struggle with friends, struggle with foes. The Message

2 Corinthians 11:23-27 I’ve been at risk in the city, at risk in the country, endangered by desert sun and sea storm, and betrayed by those I thought were my brothers. I’ve known drudgery and hard labor, many along and lonely night without sleep, many a missed meal, blasted by the cold, naked to the weather. The Message

FIND SHELTER

Psalms 46:1 God is our shelter and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. 2 So we will not be afraid…” Good News Translation

Psalm 62:2   He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken. New Living Translation

DROP TO YOUR KNEES

JESUS IS WITH YOU IN THE STORM

Mark 4:35 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” 36 And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. English Standard Version

Mark 4:37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. 38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” English Standard Version

Mark 4:39 And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. English Standard Version

The storm may be over your head, but it’s under his feet! -Jason Swann

Psalm 89:9 You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them." New International Version

John 16:33 I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” New International Version
