Lesson 4: Building A Better Relationship with God

October 24 & 25

God’s purpose for man is for man to be God’s best friend

Romans 5:10 For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. 11 So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God. New Living Translation

Exodus 34:14 You must worship no other gods, for the Lord, whose very name is Jealous, is a God who is jealous about his relationship with you. New Living Translation

Hosea 6:6 ...I want you to know me more than I want burnt offerings. New Living Translation

Reverence

Psalms 145:2 I’ll bless you every day, and keep it up from now to eternity. 3 God is magnificent; he can never be praised enough. There are no boundaries to his greatness. Message Bible

Psalms 25:14 Friendship with God is reserved for those who reverence him. With them alone he shares the secrets of his promises. The Living Bible

Thirst

Psalms 42:1 As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? The Living Bible

Philippians 3:8 Yes, all the things I once thought were so important are gone from my life. Compared to the high privilege of knowing Christ Jesus as my Master, firsthand, everything I once thought I had going for me is insignificant - dog dung. I’ve dumped it all in the trash so that I could embrace Christ and be embraced by him. Message Bible

Philippians 2:13 For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure. Amplified Bible

Time

John 4:24 ...God is sheer being itself—Spirit. Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration.” The Message Bible

Three ways to spend time with God

·         Intellectual (Bible Reading, Colossians 3:16)

·         Spiritual (Worshiping, John 4:24)

·         Conversational (Constant Conversation, 1 Thessalonians 5:17)

Psalm 27:4 The one thing I want from God, the thing I seek most of all, is the privilege of meditating in his Temple, living in his presence every day of my life, delighting in his incomparable perfections and glory. The Living Bible
