He Said What?

Lesson 2: Don’t Judge Me

April 25 & 26, 2015

Matthew 7:1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. New International Version

Galatians 6:7 Don’t be misled - you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. New Living Bible

What we Give is what we Get

James 2:13 for there will be no mercy to those who have shown no mercy. But if you have been merciful, then God’s mercy toward you will win out over his judgment against you. The Living Bible

Matthew 7:1 Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. New International Version

Judge: To criticize another while assuming their motive and future.

We don’t have the authority to judge others

Romans 14:4 Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand. New International Version

We aren’t capable of judging others

1 Corinthians 4:3 I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself. 4 My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me. New International Version

Only God can judge a heart

1 Corinthians 4:5 Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God. New International Version

"Why people judge others"

Matthew 7:3“And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? 4 How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? New Living Translation

How to fix our critical attitude

Matthew 7:5 Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye. New Living Translation

LOG # 1

Insecurity

Insecurity Says: "People are better than me."

1 Corinthians 12:27 Now here is what I am trying to say: All of you together are the one body of Christ, and each one of you is a separate and necessary part of it. The Living Bible

LOG # 2

Offense

Hebrews 12:15 Look after each other so that not one of you will fail to find God’s best blessings. Watch out that no bitterness takes root among you, for as it springs up it causes deep trouble, hurting many in their spiritual lives. The Living Bible

LOG # 3

Pride

Pride Says: "People are inferior to me.”

1 Corinthians 8:1…But while knowledge makes us feel important, it is love that strengthens the church. 2 Anyone who claims to know all the answers doesn’t really know very much. New Living Translation

Fixing instead of judging

Matthew 7:5 Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye. New Living Translation
