Christians Have a Set of Keys that Only WE Can Use

Matthew 16:13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” English Standard Version

Matthew 16:16 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. English Standard Version

Matthew 16:18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. English Standard Version

Peter is translated from the Greek word “Petros” which means a small rock or stone that stands alone. The word rock is translated from the Greek word “Petra” which means a large projecting rock that’s a foundational rock. Peter or “Petros” is masculine, and rock or “Petra” is feminine.

Matthew 16:19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." New International Version

According to Nestles/Marshall's Interlinear Greek-English New Testament the phrases “will be bound and will be loosed in heaven” in Matthew 16:19 and Matthew 18:18 are in the perfect tense, passive voice. That means that the action occurred in the past but has an abiding result.

Matthew 16:19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind (declare to be improper and unlawful) on earth must be what is already bound in heaven; and whatever you loose (declare lawful) on earth must be what is already loosed in heaven. Amplified Bible CE

Matthew 18:15 “If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. 16 But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ New International Version

Matthew 18:17 If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church (The leadership or pastors); and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector. New International Version

Matthew 18:18 “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. New International Version

Matthew 18:18 Truly I tell you, whatever you forbid and declare to be improper and unlawful on earth must be what is already forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit and declare proper and lawful on earth must be what is already permitted in heaven. Amplified Bible CE

Matthew 18:19 “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.” New International Version
