What Forgiveness Isn’t
Forgiveness isn’t minimizing the offense
Forgiveness isn’t reconciliation
Forgiveness isn’t absolution with God
Romans 12:19 Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the Lord. New Living Translation
Galatians 6:7 Do not deceive yourselves; no one makes a fool of God. You will reap exactly what you plant. Good News Translation
Forgiveness isn’t fair
“To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in me.” C.S. Lewis
Forgiveness isn’t forgetting
Forgiveness is saying I won’t hold you accountable for the wrong you did to me. I release you!
You’ll be offended continuously
John 16:33I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” New International Version
Unforgiveness only hurts you
“Unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.”
Proverbs 18:19 It is harder to win back the friendship of an offended brother than to capture a fortified city. His anger shuts you out like iron bars. Living Bible
Ask Jesus to help you forgive
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ, because he gives me strength. New Century Version
