Where Calling Comes to Life
Lesson 1: Cave of Character
March 9 & 10, 2019
How do we handle the feeling of being slighted when we’re not promoted or used?
While You’re Waiting God Is Working
1 Samuel 16:5 …Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice. 6 When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, “Surely the Lord’s anointed stands here before the Lord.” New International Version
1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him.The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” New International Version
1 Samuel 16:10 Jesse had seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel said to him, “The Lord has not chosen these.” New International Version
1 Samuel 16:11 So he asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered. “He is tending the sheep.” Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives.” New International Version
1 Samuel 16:12 So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features. Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.” New International Version
1 Samuel 16:13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David. Samuel then went to Ramah. New International Version
1 Samuel 24:3 He (Saul) came to the sheep pens along the way; a cave was there, and Saul went in to relieve himself. David and his men were far back in the cave. New International Version
1 Samuel 24:4 The men said, “This is the day the Lord spoke of when he said to you, ‘I will give your enemy into your hands for you to deal with as you wish.’” Then David crept up unnoticed and cut off a corner of Saul’s robe. New International Version
1 Samuel 24:5 Afterward, David was conscience-stricken for having cut off a corner of his robe. New International Version
1 Samuel 24:6 He said to his men,“The Lord forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, or lay my hand on him; for he is the anointed of the Lord.” New International Version
1 Samuel 24:7 With these words David sharply rebuked his men and did not allow them to attack Saul. And Saul left the cave and went his way. New International Version
If God Wants Something To Happen It Will Happen
Revelation3:7…These are the words of him (Jesus) who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. New International Version
1 Peter 5:6 So be content with who you are, and don’t put on airs. God’s strong hand is on you; he’ll promote you at the right time. 7 Live carefree before God; he is most careful with you. The Message
